From Confusion to Clarity – How Do We Get There?
Everybody gets stuck once in a while. You know the feeling. There are times when we just can’t seem to move forward. We lose our ability to see things clearly and to remain positive with grace and ease. You and I understand the power of being grateful and choosing joy, but sometimes the energy just seems to elude us. We feel powerless to will it back through sheer mental discipline. Maybe we’re feeling vulnerable or scared – which in turn impedes our ability to get unstuck.
When I used to struggle with something – and just couldn’t will myself to focus my thoughts in a positive way – I said a simple prayer. It was always the same. Usually, my discontent was caused by either a lack of discernment, trying to control something beyond my control, or some hurt feelings from long ago and far away. Almost always it was based on some tricks my ego was playing on me. So I whispered a very simple prayer: “Please help me and forgive me; forgive me and help me.” This always worked for me. And actually, it still does! Something inevitably shifts, and it’s as if I finally get out of my own way and back into the flow of grace. I move from confusion to clarity, and from angst to ease.
Augment Your Discipline with Humor and a Shift
While I wholeheartedly believe in discipline and the power of positivity, sometimes it’s hard to shift our thoughts away from disappointments, highly persuasive self-doubt, negative self-talk, or the criticism of others. With years of practice neutralizing negative thoughts and focusing on all that is good and right and beautiful, it has become much easier for me to remain positive. But even now if I am feeling vulnerable in some way, being positive can still be temporarily challenging. Yet once I become aware of what is happening, I often chuckle and the feeling disappears like a mist.
Old Messages Still Hold Us Captive
During our formative years, most of us experienced varying degrees of criticism which we have internalized. This commonly and understandably leads to the development of some self-limiting beliefs. And it is almost always our self-doubts which trip us up when we are not doing what we want to do, or are not receiving the kind of results we desire.
By the same token, we may have hurt feelings or have judged someone else and are carrying pain and guilt.
We may feel undeserving and be sabotaging our dreams. This usually happens because of some negative belief within the subconscious part of our mind. Even though these negative beliefs are operative we may not be aware of their significant influence. Given how ingrained these limiting beliefs – or what Bob Proctor refers to as paradigms – are, they are quite tenacious and resist change.
Our powerful subconscious can actually override our conscious efforts when those efforts are based on sheer will alone. So how do we get past this? How can we overcome this obstacle? We sometimes need extra help in getting the results we desire. The simple prayer I used to utter originally came to me out of my struggle. It helped realign my thoughts, lift my spirits and get me moving forward again. It also opened my heart and enabled me to receive grace.
Recently I happened upon a special healing practice which took me by surprise. But then again, I believe when the student is ready the teacher or teaching appears. So on the other hand, I just smiled and said a silent, heartfelt “Thank you.”
Help for a Friend in Need
I was searching for a way to help a friend who was struggling. That is how I found Joe Vitale’s program. Like many people, I first learned of Dr. Vitale in the movie, “The Secret,” based on the work of Rhonda Byrne, and have followed his work for years. So I looked into what he has to offer, with my particular mission in mind.
Similar to a plateau during a weight loss program, my friend was feeling stuck. Even though she had experienced many successes employing the Law of Attraction she wasn’t continuing to obtain the results she sought. So I was looking for a quick, effective tool to help. Because sometimes we simply need a bit of additional support to break through our resistance.
When reprogramming our subconscious mind, it is important to only use tools from people you know, like and trust. Which is why I looked into what Joe Vitale has available. What I found delighted me.
Since I never recommend something without researching it and/or experiencing it first, I bought Joe Vitale’s program, The Result, and began to use it. Wow, is it ever beautiful! I also ordered and read his book, At Zero. I bought the kindle version which is available here.
Ho’oponopono and Healing Music
Dr. Vitale’s work in The Result combines Law of Attraction with a marvelous practice called Ho’oponopono. The concepts and practice of Ho’oponopono were new to me. Yet I immediately resonated with them. Especially since the four phrases (listed below) within the practice contain the essence of my simple prayer: “Please help me and forgive me; forgive me and help me.” It was remarkable!
Blending the Law of Attraction with Ho’oponopono
Dr. Vitale combines two powerful methodologies to tap into more of the conscious and subconscious parts of our mind. He puts together affirmations from the Law of Attraction as well as the Hawaiian forgiveness ritual, Ho’oponopono. He then combines that with healing music. This combination provides a powerful tool and a wonderful experience.
The purpose of repeating the four phrases is to cleanse us internally. The focus is on taking responsibility for our lack of inner peace and forgoing all blaming (of self and others). As Dr. Vitale explains it, Ho’oponopono is “…a method of creating perfect order and balance to heal a situation.” Ho’ means to make, create or do; Pono means balance, perfect order or correctness.
The Four Phrases of Ho’oponopono are:
“I love you.”
“Please forgive me.”
I love the way ancient wisdom and modern science often confirm one another. Eternal truths are found repeated and variously expressed throughout the ages. After all, there is one Source and Creator of us all.
While in seminary I learned the acronym ACTS. It’s a guide which, according to my faith tradition, contains the key elements of prayer. It stands for Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, and Supplication. Including these components in one’s prayer creates a holistic or inclusive order, and helps to align our spirit. And it is quite similar to the four phrases which also express love, confession, supplication, and thanksgiving.
These practices give both a context and rationale which incorporates another concept I wholeheartedly believe in and practice. That of regularly expressing deep, genuine gratitude. As Wallace D. Wattles writes, “…in times of doubt and indecision, cultivate gratitude.”
Visualization and Music with Subliminal Messages
I have effectively used the Law of Attraction and the practice of visualization for years. I went from skeptic to believer after several personal and fruitful experiences. There are numerous studies showing the efficacy of visualization. Many cultures have practiced visualization since ancient times. And fascinating scientific research is being done on the physiology of visualization. In addition to the practice of visualization, uplifting music and subliminal messages can be powerful ways to achieve heightened results.
Vitale’s program, The Result consists of a short guided meditation which he narrates. It also includes 6 pieces of beautiful instrumental guitar music that contain subliminal affirmations based on the Law of Attraction. I have used subliminal messages before in personal growth work. They can be a powerful way to help accelerate changes in mindset and facilitate a breakthrough. Joe Vitale’s program does both of these things. But perhaps even more exciting is the fact that he combines LOA with another teaching and tool, that of Ho’oponopono. I listen to this music every night after my prayers and before sleep.
The Heart of the Matter
There are times it’s possible to feel overwhelmed, confused or uncertain or to carry painful memories. When this happens it can be hard to just discipline our thoughts and be positive. Sometimes discipline alone fails us. We need a way to get back in harmony with our highest and best self, to have an attitude adjustment, to simply regain our balance and feel grateful once again. Various spiritual practices can help us achieve this and repeating Ho’oponopono’s four phrases is one quick, simple and highly effective way to do that.
I find Dr. Vitale’s program wonderfully enjoyable, powerful and so easy to use. And I love the bonus music. It is meditative and relaxing, soothing and enlivening at once and stimulates creativity. Take a few moments to hear Dr. Vitale’s explanation and what he has to offer you. See if it speaks to you. I believe you’ll be glad you did.
By the way, I shared this program with my friend and she is thrilled with it. Perhaps you will be too. This is the way she expressed her experience of Joe Vitale’s program, The Result :
“Whenever I am troubled by a decision or some way I have acted, I think about how it might have gone differently. I hold that in my mind and say the 4 phrases until it feels lighter in my spirit.
I also use them if I have a challenging conversation with someone or I anticipate some sort of conflict. The phrases really help me to see the situation clearly, take ownership of my part, and be generous in my thoughts and actions.”
